Barga
is a medieval hilltop town in the Serchio river valley. It has gained prestigious awards for the quality of its tourist services and it has also been officially included in the list of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy by The Italian Touring Club for its historical and artistic importance. The most important things to see in Barga are the Castle, the Duomo of Barga "Collegiata di San Cristoforo", (11th-16th centuries), the main example of Romanesque architecture in the Serchio Valley, the Teatro dei Differenti, Casa Pascoli, Loggia del Podestà and the Conservatory of S. Borgo a Mozzano is a little town located on Serchio river and dominated by the presence of Ponte del Diavolo. Also known as Ponte della Maddalena (Maddalena’s Bridge), this bridge, with its majestic asymmetrical arches, was built in the XII century and is a living expression of the medieval engineering. It was probably commissioned by the Countess Matilda of Tuscany and it was renovated under the direction of Castruccio Castracani.
