Mercantia Certaldo
Every year in the magnificent setting of the Certaldo, a beautiful village halfway between Florence and Siena, takes place one of the most important international street theatre festival, "Mercantia": a unique kermesse that blends together classic street theatre (pantomime, jugglers, firefighters, singers, etc.) with puppet theatre, experimental theatre, cabaret, prose, vertical aerial dance, acrobatic and any other form of dance, contemporary art installations and live craftsmanship. All the performances take place in squares, alleys, courtyards and gardens and you can also stroll through the numerous stalls at the large handcraft market where you can buy leather items, puppets, original masks and notebooks with medieval decorations and much more.
