  • San Gimignano

Known as the Town of Fine Towers, San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill town in the province of Siena. It's famous for its medieval architecture and for the preservation of about a dozen of tower houses and well-preserved buildings that include great examples of both Romanesque and Gothic architecture as well as churches (such as Collegiata church famous for its fresco cycles) and medieval fortifications. The historic centre of San Gimignano is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is also known for its white wine, Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
  • Volterra

Volterra is a walled mountaintop town whose origins date back to the ancient Etruscans. The city was protected by a four-mile-long wall. You can still see its mighty Etruscan gate, Porta all'Arco, built of massive volcanic tuff stones. Walking through its medieval narrow streets you will find handcraft shops featuring jewelry, bronze and of course alabaster work, that has been crafted in Volterra since the Etruscan era. Volterra's main square, Piazza dei Priori, is dominated by the Palazzo dei Priori (City Hall). Do not miss the opportunity to see the Roman theater and the Etruscan Museum, filled with precious artifacts from centuries before Christ.
